We believe that sustainability is, above all, a matter of relationships. For over 15 years, we have worked with the same family-run factories within a 60 km radius of our studio. This proximity isn’t just about reducing our carbon footprint; it’s about a direct, daily dialogue. We know the hands that knit our sweaters, ensuring a transparent chain where the local economy thrives through long-term trust.

ZERO-WASTE knitwear

Designing with precision to minimise waste.

We don’t just aim to be sustainable; we engineer our knitwear to minimise waste. We use Japanese Shima Seiki technology and work with two different knitting techniques: advanced 3D Wholegarment knitting, which creates an entire garment directly in one seamless piece, and fully-fashioned knitting, where each panel is knitted to its precise shape before being assembled. Both techniques allow us to work with the exact shape of the garment and minimise the need for cutting, significantly reducing yarn waste.

OUR ON-DEMAND PHILOSOPHY

The most radical form of sustainability is simply producing what is needed. Our business model has always been built on an on-demand philosophy to avoid the environmental burden of deadstock. By carefully calculating our production cycles, we ensure that every garment we create has a home, standing firmly against the industry’s culture of excess. At Diarte, a garment is only created when it is truly wanted.

ENERGY & FOOTPRINT

80% of our production is powered by solar energy.

Today, 80% of our production is powered by solar energy through renewable installations at our partner factories, significantly reducing the energy footprint of our production.

We consider the environmental impact of every step, from sourcing materials to production and logistics. Our partner factories are all located within a 60 km radius of our studios, and we also source our materials within the EU, reducing the carbon footprint associated with transportation.

STANDARDS & CERTIFICATIONS

Certifications are part of how we choose our materials.

Our material selection is guided by recognised certifications and standards, helping us make informed choices about how fibres are sourced and produced. We look beyond the label, using each certification as part of our decision-making process and our approach to more responsible production.

We work with certified materials and fibres carrying standards such as GOTS, OEKO-TEX®, Better Cotton, the Global Recycled Standard (GRS), FSC®-certified viscose, LENZING™ ECOVERO™, TENCEL™ Lyocell, the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS), among others. These standards help us assess how fibres are sourced and produced, while providing traceability and supporting more responsible choices throughout our supply chain.
