Taking care of your garments is the ultimate act of sustainability. A well-tended piece doesn’t just last longer; it carries your history with it. 

Before you begin, we invite you to always check the specific care labels inside your Diarte pieces, they are the first step in ensuring a lifetime of wear.

WASHING

A gentle approach to caring for wool and cotton.

We believe in washing less and airing more. When a wash is necessary, choose a ritual that respects the fibers. For wool and delicate knits, we recommend a cold hand wash or a specific wool program with a neutral, pH-balanced detergent. For our cotton voile and woven pieces, use gentle cycles at low temperatures (30°C) to preserve the softness and structure of the organic fibers. Never wring or twist your garments; treat them with the same gentleness they provide you.

DRYING

Patience and a flat surface help preserve the original shape.

To maintain the original silhouette, never hang a wet knit. After washing, roll your garment in a clean towel and press gently to remove excess water. Then, reshape the piece and lay it flat on a drying rack, away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Let gravity stay out of the process; flat drying is the only way to ensure your sweater keeps its form.

STORAGE & SHAPE

Fold knitwear to let the fibers rest and recover.

Knitwear needs to “breathe” and rest between wears to allow the fibers to return to their natural state. When it comes to storage, follow one golden rule: always fold, never hang. Hangers are the enemy of knitwear structure, as gravity will eventually stretch the shoulders and distort the fit. Keep your pieces folded in a cool, dry place to preserve their architecture.

MAINTENANCE & REPAIR

Small acts of care can extend the life of a garment.

Pilling, the appearance of small bobbles, is a natural characteristic of high-quality natural fibers, not a defect. It happens due to friction in areas of movement. To restore your garment, use a wooden knit comb or a specialized fabric shaver to gently “shave” the surface. With a little maintenance, your knitwear will look as crisp as the day it arrived.

MENDING IS MEMORY

Repairing is part of keeping a garment in your life.

We embrace the culture of repair. A small snag or a loose thread is not the end of a garment’s life, but a new chapter in its story. Mending is a quiet protest against disposable fashion, a way to honor the craftsmanship and the memories embedded in the wool. Before letting go, consider a simple stitch; it’s the most beautiful way to show a garment it is still loved.

SEASONAL TRANSITION

Protecting your garments from moths during storage.

When the seasons shift, prepare your DIARTE pieces for their time in storage. Always clean your garments before putting them away, as moths are naturally attracted to natural fibres such as wool and cotton, as well as traces of oils, perspiration and perfume left on the garment.

Fold your pieces neatly and store them in breathable cotton bags, or wrap them in a clean, breathable fabric. Keep them in a cool, dry place and avoid plastic, allowing the natural fibres to breathe while keeping your garments protected until the season comes around again.
