our vertical ethics

THE ART OF PROXIMITY: OUR LOCAL CIRCLE

We believe that sustainability is, above all, a matter of relationships. For over 15 years, we have worked with the same family-run workshops within a 100km radius of our studio. This proximity isn’t just about reducing our carbon footprint; it’s about a direct, daily dialogue. We know the hands that knit our sweaters, ensuring a transparent chain where the local economy thrives through long-term trust.

ZERO-WASTE ENGINEERING: Designing without leftovers

We don’t just aim to be sustainable; we engineer our knitwear to be waste-free. Utilizing advanced 3D knitting and japanese Shima Seiki technology, our pieces are fully-fashioned, meaning each piece is programmed to its exact shape, emerging from the machine as a finished panel.

By eliminating the cutting process, we ensure that not a single gram of yarn is wasted, turning raw material into form with zero leftovers.

OUR ON-DEMAND PHILOSOPHY: Against overproduction

The most radical form of sustainability is simply producing what is needed. Our business model is built on an on-demand philosophy to avoid the environmental burden of deadstock.

By carefully calculating our production cycles, we ensure that every garment we create has a home, standing firmly against the industry’s culture of excess. At Diarte, a garment is only created when it is truly wanted.

ENERGY & FOOTPRINT: 80% Solar Powered

We track the invisible impact of our craft. Today, 80% of our production is powered by solar energy through the renewable installations at our partner workshops, significantly reducing the energy footprint of our production.

In our studio, we are constantly refining our logistics and have eliminated unnecessary plastics from our packaging, opting for circular materials that respect the environment.

BEYOND THE LABEL: Standards, not just stamps

For us, certifications like GOTS or Oeko-Tex® are not marketing tools; they are our minimum standard of quality. We select organic and recycled fibers that meet these rigorous global criteria to ensure they are safe for both your skin and the soil. We look beyond the label to guarantee that our materials are sourced with integrity and processed without harmful chemicals.

TRANSPARENCY & ETHICS: A human-centric code

Even as a design student, Ana was always drawn to knitwear above all else. She was fascinated by the idea of designing the fabric itself, turning a simple thread into something with texture and volume. Knitwear is technical by nature; the machine must be able to execute the idea, and that rational, problem-solving side of the process has always been central to the way she designs.

Today, Ana still knits samples by hand for the factories and continues to work with the knitting machine she bought on eBay while living in London. Staying hands-on keeps her connected to the design process and is a constant reminder of why DIARTE exists. It’s not just about creating products, but about maintaining a direct relationship with what they make.
