how we keep what we love
Clothing that lasts depends not only on how it's made, but on how it's cared for.
At DIARTE, we believe knitwear is designed to soften, adapt and become part of everyday life. Caring for it isn't simply maintenance; it's a way of preserving the shape, texture and memories each garment gathers over time.
Before you begin, always check the care label inside your garment. Every fibre has its own needs, and those instructions are the best guide to help your piece stay with you for years to come.
WASH LESS, AIR MORE
Natural fibres don't need to be washed after every wear. In most cases, simply airing your knitwear overnight is enough to refresh it.
When washing is necessary, choose a cold hand wash or a dedicated wool cycle using a mild detergent. Avoid fabric softeners, wringing or twisting the garment, as they can weaken the fibres and alter its shape.
DRY FLAT
Never hang a wet knit.
After washing, gently press the garment inside a clean towel to remove excess water. Then reshape it while it's still damp and leave it to dry flat, away from direct sunlight or radiators.
Drying flat prevents gravity from stretching the fibres and helps the garment keep its original proportions.
FOLD, DON'T HANG
Natural fibres benefit from resting between wears, allowing them to recover their original shape.
When storing knitwear, always fold it instead of hanging it. Even the best-quality wool will gradually stretch at the shoulders if stored on a hanger.
Choose a cool, dry place and avoid plastic bags that trap moisture.
PILLING IS NATURAL
Pilling is a natural characteristic of high-quality natural fibres, not a defect.
It appears where friction is greatest, such as under the arms or along the sides of the body.
Remove pills gently with a knit comb or fabric shaver, avoiding excessive pressure.
MENDING IS MEMORY
A loose thread or a missing button isn't the end of a garment's story.
Whenever possible, we encourage repairing rather than replacing. A small stitch, a new button or a simple repair can extend the life of a garment for years, allowing it to continue collecting memories along the way.
